Toponomia

The name Oaxaca comes from the Nahuatl Huaxyacac Oaxaca, whose roots are Huaxin (gourd) and yacatl (top or nose, tip or principle, translated as the nose or tip of the gourd). Oaxaca was elevated to the rank of city by Charles V in the year 1532. Today the population of Oaxaca is 244.727 inhabitants and statewide 3'224, 270.


Location

Oaxaca State is located in the southeast of the Mexican Republic, to the north borders the states of Veracruz and Puebla, to the south by the Pacific Ocean to the east with the Chiapas State and west with the Guerrero State.
